Hanna Zielińska plays ’a Fancy’ (p. 73) by John Dowland on ’Frieda’ (Den Toom Luthier)

“’A Fancy’ (Poulton ) is a composition beloved by both lutenists and guitarists alike. A work of reneissance composer and virtuoso lutenist John Dowland (1563-1626), also known as ’Tremolo Fantasie’, it is believed to be inspired by the main motif of “All in a garden green“. The characteristic theme also appears in Dowland’s contemporary, organist Jan Pieterszoon Sweenlick’s “Onder een Linde Groen“. The piece can be found in the Cambridge University Library.
