Pathologists Recording Gross Examination Medical Report in Cutting Room

In the cutting room, pathologists’ hands are tied up with cutting the specimen, therefore writing down the findings on a piece of paper is obviously not an efficient method. The preferred way is to dictate the diagnosis by voice to the Philips dictation system first and then transfer the dictation files to the typist. They typically would need a sensitive goose-neck mike (because it is a noisy environment) to record and a foot pedal to control the start/stop/playback function of the recorder. A loud beep sound can be heard when they press the start/stop button by foot so they can focus on the specimen and not be distracted by the operation of the machine.
