Pompeii relives the ancient technique of making plaster casts

Pompeii relives the ancient technique of making plaster casts, in November 2020. The process, conceived in the Nineteenth Century by Giuseppe Fiorelli, involves the introduction of liquid plaster into the cavities left by the bodies under the volcanic material of the inhabitants of the ancient Roman city. Two men were thus brought to light, most likely a rich Pompeian and his slave, killed during the great eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. The technique of making the casts has gradually been refined over the decades and today returns the image of two fugitives with surprising details, from the drapery of ancient Roman clothes to the veins of the hands that still seem to pulsate tightly in pain.
