This is another fan-made remix of a Gary Numan track that features as track 2 on “The Pleasure Principle“ that was released in 1979. Yet again, the original version of this song demonstrates that Gary Numan was a pioneer of synth rock and he definitely set the benchmark for the next few years. “The Pleasure Principle“ got to number 1 in the UK and remained in the album charts for 21 weeks.
I remember seeing a TV show called Synth Britannia where Andy McCluskey from OMD referred to Gary Numan as “Johnny come lately“ whilst still acknowledging Gary Numan’s contribution to the synth genre.
I think I understand what Andy McCluskey was saying in that OMD, Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, The Games etc had been playing with synths for a while and suddenly Gary Numan starts using them and he takes things to another level. To be fair to Gary Numan, he was doing innovative things in 1979 - he might not have been the first to use synths, but when he got his hands on them his musical creativity and incredible vision resulted in some of the most epic synth rock tracks ever written. Gary Numan has influenced so many artists and he is starting to get the credit he deserves for his contribution to music. Thanks for the music Gary Numan.
I have not done this for personal gain and will make no money from this video.
