Birkenhead’s Gift AKA Birkenhead Donates To Red Cross (1914-1918)
Birkenhead, Merseyside.
Birkenhead donates ambulance to Red Cross. Shot of charitable committee on a raised platform (including mayor, vicar / priest, academic, old lady etc.). Behind the platform is the ambulance. The mayor speaks, standing at a small table on the platform (actually a converted cart). The lady then speaks. The vicar touches the side of Red Cross ambulance as he speaks - giving it his blessing?
Shot of people watching from steps and balcony of large civic building, pan to sign in front about war effort: “We’re both needed to serve the Cans“ with a picture of a soldier and man in civvies, possibly a farmer? Continue to pan showing more people on balcony.
C/U backs of the committee of speakers looking into the back of the ambulance. A man shows them the medical equipment inside the ambulance. They walk towards the camera.
World War One, home front, medical.
Modified WPA record.
