Ustad Asad Ali Khan is the last renowned practitioner of the ancient Indian lute, - the Rudraveena, which is a very difficult instrument to play. He is also the last virtuoso of the Khandar Vani - which takes its name from the weapon khanda(medieval Rajasthani pike) It is a stream of the ancient song form, Dhrupad.
