Zambia: Increasing Literacy Through GraphoGame (Learning World: S5E02, 1/3)
In Lusaka, Zambia, the Vera Chiluba Primary School experiments with a new way of teaching its pupils. 20 minutes per day, the young learners are encouraged to play a Graphogame on tablet computers. Unlike conventional teaching, which is done in English, the graphogame makes use of the students’ first language, Chinyanja, making it much easier for them to combine letters into words. By playing the game, students increase their literacy without realising it.
