- REITBLOG 36 - Pilarenarbeit (Pillar work)

--- Warning --- Please do not try without the help of an experienced horse trainer! If the tied up horse gets scared or is put under pressure things can get dangerous. For this work you need a lot of experience, patience, calmness, feeling for the horse, timing and praise. Nowadays there are actually alternatives for the work in the pillars, have a look at the Academic Groundwork. I personally like the pillar work because it can set the forehand of the horse very free and put it on the haunches, if you do it correctly. For QBs education it has helped me a great deal. And I think that it is important to keep this cultural heritage which is hundreds of years old. The Old Riding Masters in the Renaissance an baroque era educated their horses from the very beginning between two pillars and around one. Here the horses got to know all the aids, they learned to perform sidepasses, walk, trot, canter, terre à terre and school jumps on the spot. The Old Masters worked with several people on one horse, one person in the front of the horse to make it go forward into the ropes, one behind the horse to work the hindlegs and one person on each side of the horse to place the body through side movements. First without a rider and when the horse knew all the aids from the ground, they put a young rider on it and reduced the aids from the ground step by step, until the rider was able to give all the signals. Then you could take the horse out of the pillars and add the forward - now you had a completely educated, high schooled horse, carring its weight on the hindquarter. FOLLOW ME ON: Instagram: julika_reitkunst Homepage:
