This film was taken in 1998 when Ion Constantin was still able to turn a traditional wooden drinking flask on his pole lathe and he may well have been the last pole lathe turner in Eastern Europe. As you will see his tools and equipment are of the simplest form which he uses with remarkable skill. Ion is not only a flask turner, he also turned domestic bowls and carved table spoons. This video was only possiable with the help of the Romanian artisan community.
