THE REAL LORD OF THE FLIES | THE SIX TONGAN CASTAWAYS OF ATA ISLAND In 2015 Spanish explorer Alvaro Cerezo marooned himself on Ata desert island with one of the six Tongan survivor kids, Kolo Fekitoa. He was also one of the last real castaways alive. Ata Island is an uninhabited island located in the middle of the ocean near the remote archipelago of Tonga. Ata is one of the few real desert islands where human doesn’t get even close. Sadly, Kolo was sick in in 2015 and his last wish was to return to the desert island that saved his life when he was a schoolboy. Kolo and Alvaro survived for 10 days, living exactly like they did back in 1965, as Kolo’s last wish. They drank coconuts, eating seabirds, making fire with their own hands and sleeping in the exact same places. Sadly, Kolo Fekitoa passed away in 2017, two years after the his 10 days experience with us.
