Storm Gerrit brings strong winds and heavy snow to the UK

Homes have flooded, flights are being cancelled and “miles of vehicles” are stranded in snow amid widespread disruption caused by Storm Gerrit. Thousands of people returning home after Christmas have been affected by the strong winds, heavy rain and “very severe” wintry conditions. Weather warnings are in place for 70mph winds and up to 90mm of rain, as delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are reported across the country.
