The Filipino Martial Arts, also known as Kali, Arnis and Eskrima, deal with different areas of weapon and empty hand fighting. One of these areas is the so called Panantukan, the filipino way of boxing. Based on the same fundamentals like the western boxing, Panantukan is not much oriented in competition but more in streetboxing or self-defense. because of this there is not only the use of fist techniques, but also the use of hammerfist, palm strikes, elbow, shoulder, ... Additional there is the use of pushes and pulls to manipulate the body and breaking the balance. Everything is to get a good self-defense.
In part one of our two part Filipino Boxing Series we show basics like arm and foot positions, footwork, basic strikes of the “classical“ and the “Filipino boxing“, padwork, basic defense and counter techniques and follow ups. In the end we describe the most important principles and tactics with examples.
