FILIPINO BOXING / KALI EMPTY HANDS / PANANTUKAN

Please note that most of the techniques shown are for demonstration purposes only. We have included some footage of our then-newbie-level groundfighting sessions. It’s not exactly Kali, but in a scuffle, you don’t know what’s going to happen so best be prepared, right? :) Of course we never want to go to the ground, but if ever we do, it’s better if we know how to deal with it in case it happens. My FMA background includes Rapido Realismo Kali, Modern Arnis, some limted Pekiti Tirsia Kali and Dekiti Tirsia Siradas. I also have some basic background in western boxing as well as Brazilian Jiu jitsu. Panantukan is a term that has come to mean “Eskrima-based Filipino boxing“ in the west. As a Filipino, I understand that the word “Panantukan“ does not make sense in the context of the Filipino language, but I believe it is so deeply entrenched in FMA that the term is here to stay.
