The HK VP70 was the first commercial polymer framed handgun. It is inspired by the Volkspistole efforts at the end of WW2 and was intended to be a high capacity pistol for civilians, as well as a 3 round burst PDW for military applications. It is extremely simple, very robust, but has a number of deficiencies that ultimately made it a failure.
