Layard’s squirrel is a small, colourful squirrel unique to Sri Lanka. It is quite small, about 100g and is confined to the wet zone forests of Sri Lanka that barely cover 2% of the island. Being an endemic, it is at risk of extinction due to the destruction of its remaining habitats. Even here, where it was filmed there is human encroachment and you can hear noises from a school nearby. Filmed with a Panasonic FZ100 with an external microphone. Filmed at Sinharaja forest. Includes noise sequence.
