Maria Zeldis (1955-2018) self-taught artist and pianist of Ukrainian ancestors who was born in Ukraine. She spent her whole childhood in Kyiv, and in the early 1990s, she and her husband moved to Mexico, where she lived and worked in a symphony orchestra. Maria spends her leisure time creating remarkably realistic graphic artworks. Maria Zeldis has been sketching extraordinarily pure and honest portraits, landscapes, still lifes, in general, everything that surrounds her and comes up in her recollection of those distant years spent in Ukraine, with basic pencils on a standard sheet of Whatman paper. Maria Zeldis’s graphic works, which are practically black and white or have limited colour hues in soft tones, express every aspect and character of the depicted figures so perfectly that they appear to be about to come to life at times. Maria Zeldis’s portraits have wonderfully gorgeous features that draw the viewer’s attention like a magnet. I want to look at every detail, every brushstrok
