El Hatzipor is a true landmark of modern Hebrew literature and tells the story of a migratory bird. Bialik’s poem takes us on a virtual tour of the diverse landscape of Israel, fluctuating between the idealized Biblical past and the dark times in Europe. The poem is about longing for home - longing for freedom, to the promised land. Bialik was one of the pioneers of modern Hebrew poetry and came to be recognized as Israel’s national poet.
