Kazakhstan: CSTO troop pull-out begins after week-long mission

The Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) troops attended a ceremony marking the end of their mission in Almaty on Thursday. “Thanks to the collective coordinated actions of the CSTO peacekeepers, the armed forces, and law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the situation in the country has currently stabilised. The country is returning to normal,“ CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said at the ceremony. He added that the full withdrawal of the peacekeeping mission would be completed within 10 days. According to Zas, more than 2,000 peacekeepers and about 250 units of equipment were transferred to Kazakhstan for the mission following Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s request on January 6.
