Most of the roadtrains in the video are carting high grade iron ore from smaller mines to Port Hedland to be loaded onto bulk carriers. These mines are too small to have a dedicated rail line. BHP and FMG also use the port facility and have much bigger mines that are serviced by heavy haul railway.
The roadtrains use covered side-tipper trailers and the controls are in the cab of the truck.
I shot the video last week (August 2015) and production seems to be just as busy as ever despite the drop in iron ore
