Correspondent Lesley Stahl won both an Emmy and a duPont-Columbia journalism award for this report. Despite the awards, Madeleine Albright’s comment went largely unremarked in the U.S. and the statement has rarely surfaced in public discourse. At the time of the interview, Albright was serving as U.S. Ambassador to the UN. Six months later, Albright was unanimously approved by the Senate as Secretary of State.
