Al Pratt sings Don McLean’s song “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)“

I first heard this song on KFRC radio out of San Francisco on a winter night in 1974. I was driving truck at that time in the Pacific Northwest and going through a very painful divorce. Circumstances forced me to drive through a blizzard between Spokane, Washington and Lewiston, Idaho and driving was difficult and dangerous, after a while I was the only one on the snow covered highway at 12 a.m. Suddenly I came out of the blizzard and it was a cloudless sky with a full moon shining on about a foot of freshly fallen snow, indescribably beautiful. I turned on the radio just as the DJ dropped the needle on Don McLean’s “Vincent“, the lyrics exactly matching the scene before me: “In colors on the snowy linen land“. I lack the words to describe how I felt Don McClean was singing directly to me ---- and at that time, in the midst of all my pain, alone on a midnight highway, Don McLean made me feel understood.
