Some of these shorts were used as interstitials in early television, when live shows might not be long enough to cover an hour. The show relied on amusing stock footage clips and Hawthorne’s patented droll, gag-laced, dry narration. This one shows footage of a stuntman dangling from the bottom of a biplane, (:36) German girls training for wheel gymnastics including in a pool (:59), trick riding practice by a circus performer followed by an elephant trained to hit golf balls (2:00). At (2:10) a man stands on the back of the elephant. At (2:23) ridiculous pioneer aircraft that cannot fly are shown. At (2:51) an escape artist is shown being placed in a box which is then lit on fire, but he makes a good escape (3:14). Wheel gymnastics (German: Rhönradturnen) is a form of gymnastics that originated in Germany. Wheel gymnasts do exercises in a large wheel or hoop known as the Rhönrad, gymnastics wheel, gym wheel, or German wheel, in the beginning also known as ayro wheel, aero wheel, and Rhon rod.
