Tokay Gecko Walks Tightrope To Catch Dinner! #shorts

Enrichment time for Tiki the tokay gecko (Gekko gecko)! Besides the usual hand feeding sometimes like to mix things up for my animals and give them a challenge. Here you can see Tiki must walk across a narrow vine to reach the caterpillar I’m feeding him. In my head, this activates muscle groups he wouldn’t be using walking around on flat surfaces in his enclosure (look at how his feet grab the vine too) and also requires him to have to do a bit of a balancing act since his weight isn’t perfectly supported. As you can see, he eventually succeeded in his mission! I think it’s also worth mentioning that this activity also helps reenforce the conditioning or comfort level between Tiki and I! Please note, this didn’t happen overnight! I’ve owned Tiki since he was a week old (the length of my pinky finger) and he turns 8 years old next month!
