► “Byodoin“ is a buddhist temple in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, founded in 1052 by the Fujiwara clan. The main building (the phoenix hall) with the golden phoenix on the roof was completed in 1053, and the two wings followed in 1054.
Byodoin is also popular nicknamed “The 10 yen coin Temple“, as its pictured on the backside of - you guessed it - Japanese 10¥coins.
