A much awaited and long foreseen return, at last the deathly stench of Odz Manouk fills the air once again, to finally cast its stygian nightmarish incantations back from the abyss once again, honoring us with 2 simultaneous album releases, with “Tzurr“ and “Bosoragazan“, ten years after the iconic “Devour All the Living Things“ split.
A long prophesied return, after a teaser having been unleashed in 2021, and the beautiful “Ծես“ compilation released earlier this year in communion with other fellow Armenian artists, Yagian conjures the gelid winds of Ararat to shroud humanity with death.
A project that should need no introduction at this point, being by all means a modern classic, “Tzurr“ opens up with a rather ritualistic, gnostic instrumental piece with beautiful and epic synthesizer use, much alike their label mates in Ahamah, and often reminiscing to me with the works of Auld Ridge. The album then progresses into a much more familiar sound for Odz Manouk, with its murderous-sorcerous dissonance filling the air with sulfur and scorching the earth into nothingness, always with clear parallels to classic acts of the turn of the century such as Leviathan or .. Yagian’s incantations appear much more matured however, not only by the cleaner and clearer production, but definitely by the dazzlingness in the songwriting, with plenty of moments of more orgiastic ecstasy and uneasy synthesizer use, always matched by his unique sense of melody and pace and unexpected changes in tempo.
This specter of chaotic and omnipresent death, that incessantly hovers over Odz Manouk is also exquisitely matched by the awe-inspiring artwork of Aron Briggs, who should be recognized, among other things, for his various artwork contributions for Crepúsculo Negro.
Released on cassette format via Blood Coloured Beast, CD and LP formats to be announced soon.
