The accident, which occurred just hours before their sister’s wedding, has left the hockey community and their family in deep mourning. The Fatal Accident The devastating incident took place on Thursday evening, around 8:19 p.m., on a county road in Oldmans Township, a quiet community located in southern New Jersey near the Delaware River. Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and Matthew Gaudreau, 29, were out for a bike ride when a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 43-year-old Sean Higgins, attempted to overtake two slower-moving vehicles. In a tragic twist, the SUV struck both brothers, leading to their untimely deaths. The New Jersey State Police quickly arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. According to State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, the driver, Sean Higgins, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Consequently, Higgins was charged with two counts of death by auto, a serious offense that reflects the gravity of the situation. Higgins was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the Salem County Correctional Facility.
