BMW Z1 Production in Germany – Historic Footage (1988)
Manufacturing footage of the BMW Z1 at the Munich plant in Germany. The Z1 was built until mid-1991 and sold in limited numbers. It was only offered with a 2.5 Litre M20 straight-six engine and five-speed Getrag 260-5 manual transmission, sourced from the E30 325i. The engine produces 168 hp and 222 Nm of torque. The BMW Z1 had a top speed of 225 km/h and could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. Its main design innovation was its doors - which retracted down instead of opening to the sides.
