A great yet often overlooked album by Gary Saracho released on Impulse - ABC in 1973.
’Señor Baker’ is probably the most well known cut from the LP, but Gary’s singular fusion of jazz, chicano, funk and classical are worth hearing in full.
More info on Gary and his projects can be found in Wolfgang Mowrey’s 2020 article ’Chasing En Medio’:
“Herbie [Hancock] called me, and was like, ‘Medio, you did it! Five stars!’” Saracho remembers. “Yeah but you wrote ‘Watermelon Man!’ And that got you the Ferrari!’”
