Venezuela opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez flees to Spain | DW News

Venzuela’s opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia is en route to Spain, where he is seeking political asylum. Venezuelan authorities had issued a warrant for his arrest, after he said he won recent elections. Spanish authorities confirmed Gonzalez was traveling in a Spanish Air Force plane. He had sought refuge at Spain’s embassy in Caracas. Incumbent Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner of July’s election, despite the opposition saying it had evidence Gonzalez had won.
