As her parents had emigrated to the USA, Gebeshian already competed in the US national championships but failed to qualify for the 2012 Summer Games in London. Despite her full-time job as a medical assistant, she did not give up her ambitions of competing in the Olympics and finally made it to the 2016 Summer Games.
