Please check out the other writers (or BECOME ONE OF THE OTHER WRITERS!!) at… Our word is - Target ‘Big Questions’ Written by Sarah Morris (all rights reserved) 8 years old I’m flying down the stairs Tears too big for my body, struggling for air My mom on the couch watching TV, eating ice cream About ready to call it a night To that laugh track in the background my words came pouring out With the force of a firehose, opened up to cool off a city block in the black heat of summertime And I started with Why am I here there must a reason Where do we go when it’s over What do they mean when they say time and space are infinite On and on without an end How can that be You see I have these Big Questions, giving me big feelings, searching for Big Answers To satisfy Any of my Big Questions What started in that living room kept running through the years My heart tripping over wondering, worrying, and fear And a nagging sense I must be the strange here Since everyone around me isn’t losing their mind And the older I got the more I tried to shut the door at least focus my gaze on the troubles before me I mean, what good was it doing, all the pulse racing, mind chasing Lying awake counting clock strikes Spiraling Why am I here there must be a reason Where do we go when it’s over What do they mean when they say time and space are infinite On and on without an end How can that be You see I have these Big Questions, giving me big feelings, searching for Big Answers To satisfy Any of my Big Questions In my twenties I fell asleep with Plato in hand Lately I’ve been giving the Bible a chance Most days though I’m thinking it’s the poets you know, who truly understand With your one wild and precious life What do you want to do? Thank goodness, Mary Oliver, you had them, too Big Questions And that gives me big feelings Searching for a Big Answer To satisfy Any of my Big Questions
