Isaac Herzog elected next President of Israel

Jewish Agency chairman Isaac Herzog, whose father, Chaim Herzog, served as Israel’s sixth president, will be Israel’s 11th president. Herzog received 87 votes in Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, on Wednesday, defeating his opponent and the only other candidate on the ballot, Israel Prize-winning educator Miriam Peretz. Current president, Reuven Rivlin, is ending his seven years in office on July 9 and is not eligible to run again.
