Writing Myth: Don’t Start a Sentence with “Because“

Have you been told you can’t start sentences with the word “Because”? This “rule” is actually a writing myth! In fact, it is just fine to start a sentence with “because”—as long as you do it the right way. Our teachers advised us not to start with “because” since they noticed we so often wrote fragments when we did so. Therefore, the guideline to not start with “because” began as a way to reduce accidental fragments in writing and ensure students used complete sentences. In truth, you can start with “because” if you include everything a complete sentence needs, as Erin Lebacqz describes in this video. You will also learn how to write a sentence that does start with “Because,” and is still grammatical; and you’ll see some “Before and After” revisions. #mythbuster #highvaluewriting #writingtips #writingmistakes #clarity #wordgirl _______________________________________ All New!!!
