Retract 2008 Volkswagen Passat Electronic Brake Calipers without computer code reader

Trying to do a quick brake job on my wife’s 2008 Volkswagen Passat I quickly discovered I did NOT have the “Right tool for the job!“... The brake calipers are controlled by the onboard computer and they must be retracted with a code reader that I did not have... I also found this out AFTER I had the car in pieces all over my driveway! After calling my dealer and finding out that it would be a several hundred dollar brake job and that I would have to put the car back together with the old worn-out brake pads
