SCREAM⎪PERCEP-TION⎪10_07_2014
This April will see [Percep-tion] Records return with Scream’ by Distorted Beauty, backed with remixes from Gabriel Ananda, Mario Aureo, Kid Culture and Luca D’Arle. Distorted Beauty is the collaborative guise of Budapest’s Andy Slate and Amsterdam’s Alexander Koning, a duo who individually between them have released material via the likes of CR2, Global Underground and Pacha. Here we see the pair release a single under their joint alias via Koning’s own [Percep-tion] Records. Kicking off the single is the original mix of Scream’ from the duo, a smooth, deep number led by drawn out sub lines, evolving ethereal pad lines, jazzy piano licks and understated analogue style rhythms, while Danique’s heartfelt vocal lines add a further charm to the composition. Gabriel Ananda steps up next to deliver a more rugged interpretation of Scream’, maintaining the smooth melodic vibe of the original yet implementing a more rough and ready approach on the percussive aspect of the record. Ritter Butzke’s Mario Aureo drops a mix of Scream’ to follow; this time we see a more hypnotic approach taken, as Mario creates a subtly blossoming mix, which gradually unfolds over its seven and a half minute duration. 2020Vision’s Kid Culture turns in his version next, delving into more stripped-back realms the Dutch producer offers up a raw drum led workout, with intermittent bass stabs and tension building atmospherics further fuelling the groove. Luca D’Arle rounds off the mixes of the title cut last, tipping the focus toward towards organic percussion, steadily blooming pads and snippets of the original vocal lines. Then last up to close the release is another original from Distorted Beauty, entitled Butterflies’, a great closing cut for the single which sees Slate & Koning blend weighty drums, resonant synth sweeps and cosseting Rhodes chords to give the record a raw and dusty feel. Distorted Beauty’s Scream’ is out on [Percep-tion] Records April 2014.
