On-point: N. Korean guards at JSA seen armed with pistols

“북, JSA 권총 착용” 우리 군도 ‘GP 복원’ 포함 상응 대책 초읽기 North Korean guards at the Joint Security Area at Panmunjom are now armed with pistols, terminating an inter-Korean deal to demilitarize the area. This is another step taken by the North after its declaration to scrap the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement. For more, we’re joined by Bruce Klinger this morning. Welcome back. 1. North Korean soldiers have reportedly been on shift with pistols on them since late last week. What does this mean? What are the North’s intentions? 2. North Korea is also restoring its frontline posts at the inter-Korean border. Deputy Principal National Security Advisor Kim Tae-hyo said the South Korean army plans to do the same. What other steps do you think Seoul can take in response to the North’s moves? 3. How will the recent tit-for-tat actions taken by the two Koreas play out? The spy satellite launch, Seoul’s partial suspension of the inter-Korean military agreement, the North announcing that it will completely terminate the pact, a return of weapons to the DMZ What’s next? 4. North Korea said Tuesday that its Malligyong-1 military reconnaissance satellite took pictures of the White House and the Pentagon. What’s the point of saying that it took photos of these sites without making them public? 5. South Korea is also set to launch its first military reconnaissance satellite on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the U.S. Vandenberg Space Force Base in California later this week, with additional plans to deploy 4 more spy satellites by 2025. What makes the South Korean one different from the one launched by the North?
