Galloway criticises new definition of extremism announced by UK government

“It is obviously true that this is part of a culture war wallpaper that’s being created for the general election soon to come.” MP George Galloway said the UK government’s new definition of extremism is being used to garner more support amid the upcoming elections. Although the wording is “non-statutory” and creates no new legal powers, critics are concerned it will be used to target Muslim and pro-Palestine organisations. A statement from Michael Gove, UK’s secretary of state for levelling up, housing and communities, said the new definition would be used by the government to help them decide which groups they should engage with and fund and to identify “extremist organisations, individuals and behaviours.” Subscribe to our channel: Subscribe to MEE Telegram channel to stay up to date: Middle East Eye Website: Follow us on TikTok: @middleeasteye Follow us on Instagram: Like us on Facebook: Follow us on Twitter:
