Activity Flow:
1. Blue team (yellow in video)
Player 1 slalom dribbles through the course and passes back to the next player (#4) at the starting position
Player 4 receives the passes and starts the same sequence
Green team (blue in video)
2. Player 2 dribbles from the first cone to the second, stops the ball there, sprints around the third cone, and when back at the ball, passes to player 8
3. Orange team
Player 3 starts running towards the first cone (a square is better to control the action), receives a pass from player 6 on the run, and dribbles around the remaining cones until back at his/her starting position
4. Stations are swapped - you get a point when your team finish first. Which team manages to score more points?
Organisation:
1. Assign three to four players to each station
2. Set up three courses with three cones each (when you wanna build up a square, think about 4 extra cones) about eight yards apart from each other
3. Each team has only one ball (they have to get the ball back if they are making a mistake)
Coaching Points:
1. Ball control - Direction of first touch - Keep the ball moving, ball should always be in motion, first touch in direction of next action, away from opponent or into space
2. Passing - Speed of the Pass - Quickly to allow team mate to turn, slowly to allow team mate to protect the ball or play one touch)
Accuracy of the Pass - In front if no opponent near, behind if opponent close
Type of Pass - Inside of foot to ensure accuracy or spin, laces for longer passes, outside of foot when under pressure or to shape away from opponent
3. Dribbling - Control - Always maintaining control of the ball recognising when to keep ball close to body and when to move ball further away to attack the space
Variations:
1. Easier - all teams are doing the same exercise (easier to control for the coach)
2. Rule - Do the same task everywhere and then change the task
3. Harder - Increase the distance between the cones (think about your break, is the break long enough to recover?)
