Matt Mullican at the Art Institute of Chicago

On Monday, April 23, 2018, artist Matt Mullican (born 1951) spoke at the invitation of the Society for Contemporary Art. Mullican’s conceptually-driven practice revolves around semiotics and subjectivity. Mullican, often working in a state of altered consciousness such as hypnosis, creates drawings, prints, sculptures, videos, and installations that explore the friction between systems of knowledge and the personal psyche. Mullican’s efforts at coding and decoding the self, map out a fluid, liminal space on the edge of the subconscious. Sponsored by Gary Metzner and Scott Johnson
