Salina Fisher was the 2015 NZSO National Youth Orchestra Composer-in-Residence. Her commission, ‘Rainphase’, was premiered under the baton of Jose Luis Gomez at Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre. The work would go on to win the 2015 SOUNZ Contemporary Award and receive a performance by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, with a performance by the Auckland Philharmonia scheduled for this November.
Salina writes that the work, “draws on characteristics of water as rain: its shape and shapelessness, transparency and density, energy and calm, and its capacity for reflection in both a literal and emotional sense.“
See the premiere performance in this NZ On Air-funded Resound film, with audio provided by RNZ Concert.
