JAPANESE PEACE TREATY: YOSHIDA’S PRESS STATEMENT, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, 09/08/1952

Shigeru Yoshida, Prime Minister and chief treaty delegate of Japan expresses his pleasure and gratitude to members of the press for their kindness and understanding. He reveals that he has just returned from the signing of the peace treaty and security pact which “opens the door for Japan to enter the community of nations.“ He pledges Japan to greater courage and wisdom than before and gives assurance that “even before the ink is dry (on the treaty)...our government and assume the responsibility of peace that history now demands...“ CREATED BY Department of Defense SUBJECT Treaties Japan
