STORYLINE:
Iraqi protesters in Baghdad burned Israeli and US flags on Sunday to show their solidarity with Hamas’ attack against Israel.
A military parade also took place in the Iraqi capital after Israel declared war against the Gaza Strip’s ruling militants.
Fighting was ongoing in southern Israel more than 24 hours on from the militants’ surprise attack across the heavily fortified frontier, while the Israeli military continued to hit Gaza with retaliatory airstrikes.
In northern Israel a brief exchange of strikes with Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group raised fears of a broader conflict.
