UK police arrest Israeli academic Haim Bresheeth after pro-Palestine speech

Professor Haim Bresheeth, a child of Holocaust survivors and the founder of the Jewish Network for Palestine, was arrested during a demonstration outside the Israeli ambassador’s residence in north London for “making a hate speech” on Friday. In his speech, Bresheeth said that Israel “cannot win against Hamas”, and that “Israel has not achieved any of its declared aims, either in Gaza, in Lebanon, in Iran or anywhere else”. The filmmaker was released on Saturday morning after a night in custody. His case has been referred to Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Bresheeth’s arrest follows a series of raids and arrests targeting pro-Palestinian activists and journalists under anti-Terror legislation.
