Georgina Hale: Bafta-winning star of Emmerdale dies aged 80

Georgina Hale, the Bafta-winning star of film and television, has died at the age of 80. After a career spanning more than 50 years, Ms Hale died on 4 January. She was known as a character actor and appeared in television shows such as Emmerdale, Doctor Who and Hollyoaks. She was also a favourite of the filmmaker Ken Russell, who featured her as Gustav Mahler’s wife in his 1974 biopic about the composer.
