It is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess known as Mookambika Devi. Mookambika is the union of Adipara Shakthi and Parabramha as the Linga has integrated on its left side “Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswathi“.[1][2][3][4][5] It is situated in the foothills of Kodachadri hills, on the southern bank of Souparnika River. Goddess Mookambika is said to be the name given to Goddess Shakti after she killed the demon Mookasura The present deity in form of a devi was established by Adi Shankaracharya. Once, Sage Kola Maharishi was performing Tapas here when he was persistently troubled by a demon. This Demon had also been praying to Lord Shiva to get powers that would make him invincible and let him do whatever he wanted. Knowing the evil mind of this demon, Devi Shakthi made him Mooka (Dumb). So, when Lord Shiva appeared before him, he was unable to ask for any boon. Enraged by this, the Demon began to harass Kola Maharishi, who was also praying to the Lord. Kola Maharishi appealed to the Divine Mother for help. So, Devi Shakthi came down and vanquished the Demon, Mookasura. Henceforth, in this region, she came to be known as Mookambika. Adi Sankara who visited the temple, and brought into the idol the presence and power of Mookambika. The legend goes that after doing tapas in the Himalayas Sankara was blessed with the ‘darshan’ of Goddess Saraswathy whom he requested to accompany back to Kerala. The Goddess agreed to do so on the condition that Sankara was not to look back while she accompanied him. After a long travel when Sankara felt he was not able to hear the tinkle of Goddess’s anklets with doubt he looked back but alas the goddess had by then turned into a golden statue since he had broken his place where this incident took place was in Kollur , near Mangalore , Karnataka. There the famous Mookambika temple was built and Sankara consecrated the idol. Shankara was saddened by the turn of event and begged the forgiveness of Saraswathy whose heart melted for her devotee and promised and she would present herself at Chottanikara in the mornings and he could meet her there🙏🙏 V3 Creative Media Production Choreography - Sabu George (JS Dance Company,Calicut) Performed by Ghanashyam.P Makeup - Ragesh Richu Calicut Costume - Sundar Mahal Calicut Song - JS Dance Company Thanks to Rageesh Mudambil ,Malaigha Sabu , Tintu C John , Arun JS Dance Company , Kozhikode -8075771956
