Listvyanka definitely makes an ambiguous impression. If you look only to the right, in the course of our movement, then beauty and harmony, but on the left… It makes me a little sad.
Let’s go to the market… The delicacies from Lake Baykal will certainly change the perception of the environment for the better.
Golomyanka is the most amazing and significant fish for Baikal!
This fish is endemic, that means, it lives only in the waters of Lake Baikal and nowhere else.
It is about the size of a palm, but has big eyes.
And big eyes are not superfluous at all, because the golomyanka is a deep-sea fish and often swims into the darkest depths of the lake in search of plankton on which it feeds. And these are, as we know, up to 1700 meters.
In addition to plankton, golomyanka can also feed on its offspring - it is a cannibalistic fish.
Golomyanka is often called transparent because the fish has no scales and color pigments, but consists of 40 percent fat.
This means that it is impossible to fry it - it simply melts in the pan. However, you can fry other fish on golomyanka fat, using it instead of oil. By the way, the fat of golomyanka is highly valued in Chinese medicine and used for wound healing.
Golomyanka is viviparous, which also distinguishes it from other fish living in Lake Baikal. That is, it does not spawn in the water, but leaves it in itself until the fry hatch from the eggs, and only then the mother releases the fry into free swimming.
And another amazing fact… According to ichthyologists, the number of golomyanka living in Lake Baikal accounts for almost 70 percent of the total number of fish in the lake.
Despite the fact that the golomyanka is the main food for many inhabitants of Lake Baikal, every year there is a complete restoration of the population.
There is a scientific theory that the golomyanka was one of the first creatures to inhabit the waters of Lake Baikal.
We tried different Baikal fish right on the shore of the Great Lake. It was a brilliant idea with the tables on the shore. You pay a not big bribe… 300 rubles per hour and enjoy delicacies in comfort and beauty!
The idea of going on a boat with a window into the underwater world was great, but unfortunately we could not see the most important thing we wanted… namely, that place on the bottom of Lake Baikal where the bottom abruptly breaks off into murky depths.
That is, the depth of 6-10 meters comes from the source of the Angara, and then abruptly breaks off…
I really wanted to look into the abyss, but no luck… As the captain of the ship explained to us, the water was ... not even so much murky, but rather not transparent enough at that moment to see this transition from shallow water to a threatening depth. Bad luck…
But, in generally, we have a pretty nice excursion, and the captain interestingly told us about all sorts of curious things about Lake Baykal… for example, about a sponge in the form of small green threads that grows in abundance all over the bottom of the lake… which tirelessly cleans the water of Lake Baikal day and night, around the clock, making it amazingly clean.
In the next video we will ride the cable car to a height of about seven hundred meters above sea level and admire the fantastic view from the observation deck, the Chersky Stone…
And the most daring, I would even say the most desperate among us, will make an extreme descent on the zipline attraction…
