Beluga Distancing — Vlad Kononkov (2020)

Project name: Beluga Distancing Author: Vlad Kononkov Year: 2020 Generative audio-visual installation, neural networks, machine learning The project is based on the idea of prediction of the behavior of biological agents and transferring their behavior patterns to non-biological ones. Observing biological species in a closed system allows us to identify the patterns of their behavior. The example of a closed system is the aquarium with beluga whales where they are placed for commercial shows or scientific research. Such a replacement of the natural environment with an artificial one is directly reflected in the patterns of their behavior and interaction with each other. Neural network technologies make it possible to analyze and transfer the audial characteristics of a biological agent to a non-biological one. The patterns of beluga movements are analyzed too and reproduced using machine learning algorithms. This makes it possible to transfer the characteristics of biological agents to non-biological ones, b
