Villela began singing professionally as a teen and moved to the Bay Area before crossing the country for studies with the legendary Sheila Jordan at the Manhattan School of Music. She returned as an artist on a mission to create fresh, original music born of her Brazilian upbringing and passion for jazz. Villela has been a regular performer at SFJAZZ, and devoted this June 2019 evening to the music of the supreme Brazilian songsmith, Antônio Carlos Jobim, featuring the GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Chico Pinheiro as a special guest.
