[DESCRIPTION]
What can I say except AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (actually more like Eb-Eb-Eb-Eb-Eb-Eb-Eb-Eb if you get the reference lol) I’m sooooo soooooooooo happy with how this turned out. What I saw 2.5 years ago as completely unapproachable arbitrarily nonsensical music (with good reason at the time because the recording I heard was so BAD i.e. John Ogdon’s), now I’ve finally worked through over 40 pieces of non-standard repertoire increasing in difficulty and complexity to finally reach the point of personally rewriting the viewpoint of this piece (and with greater than 99% accuracy! i.e. less than 1 in 100 notes is incorrect). What an unexpected dream come to fruition. I’ll leave you with the description I wrote for the middle section (starts at 1:21) of this movement, just to give any new listeners a sense of what I interpret this music could be:
“After a conflict-ridden start growing in vehemence, followed by a solemn halt marked by ’Con sentenziosità didattica’ (meaning ’With didactic sententiousness’, i.e. pompous moral instructioning), what results is the sensation of being outfitted with incorruptability, determination, and unwavering morals symbolized by the recurring Eb pedal decorated by bright complementary harmonies of all registers on the piano. The purity is tested relentlessly, trials growing in tediousness, yet the sensation is unfaltering, not only in its own defence, but on the offence as well, projecting its own rational will back with overwhelming ease and with even greater shades of harmonic brilliance.“
All other movements from OC I’ve recorded:
All works by Sorabji I’ve recorded:
