The light (without mask) version of the very rarely performed composition in Seraikela Chhau style. “Banovidhya“ literally means “smashing arrows.“
The representation of the dance can be translated like: she lived in beauty, splendor and love. But a cruel shot pierced her tender heart.
There are three themes in the dance: 1) an early life - innocence, love, 2) an agony, 3) the inevitable end (of life or of suffering? - everyone decides for himself).
Choreography by Guru Vijay Kumar Pratap Singh.
The music is based on Hindustani Bihag Raaga.
Taala: Kaharwa.
In memoriam of my Guru, late Gopal Prasad Dubey ji, who taught me this item and inspired to move forward.
